Adding Beads to Cross Stitch

Published by mstewart at 9:11 am under Cross Stitch Edit This

Using beads on a cross stitch pattern can be tricky. You need to use seed beads. You also have to have a beading needle. Whats this difference between an embroidery needle and a beading needle? A beading needing is very flexible and bendy. It also is think so you can pass the threaded needle through the bead.
You can use three ways of choosing colour for the floss to use- choose similar color to the bead, choose same colour as your background fabric or clear floss. All are fine and none of them are “wrong” . My local store tired to tell me using clear floss or beading thread was “wrong” argh. Nothing worse than some one who does crafts and tell you you are doing it WRONG. There are many ways to do the same thing or get same results.

I like clear thread when doing many different colour beads- don’t; have to keep changing threads. Also something to be said for using same colour floss. Do whatever you have handy or works best for you.
I attach bead by doing a half stitch first (up from fabric) adding bead, going into fabric, coming up and through bead then down. This will have the bead laying vertically. Some people like it to lay on diagonal. Either is correct.
